A stunning colt by exciting first season sire Wanted topped today’s second session of the Magic Millions National Weanling Sale at the Gold Coast.
Offered by Eliza Park, the colt from Regal Arena attracted bids from right around the complex with the team from Newgate Farm securing him for $255,000.
Newgate’s Henry Field was delighted to snare his number one pick from the Southern Hemisphere’s premier weanling auction.
“He’s the most outstanding individual I’ve seen offered at a weanling sale for at least five years,” Field said.
“Just a stunning colt – the pick of the sale and he’s by a speed Group One winning son of Fastnet Rock – that’s a no-brainer.”
“We will most likely offer him as a yearling, hopefully up here at the Gold Coast in January,” Field added.
After strong demand for mares earlier this week in foal to Wanted, that trend continued today for the progeny of the Newmarket Handicap winning son of champion sire Fastnet Rock.
Earlier in the day his filly from Aquatint was purchased by Queensland’s Boomer Bloodstock for $190,000.
Boomer’s Craig Rounsefell also snapped up the day’s opening lot – the High Chaparral-Satin Robes colt – for $120,000.
The top price for a filly at the sale went to the Fig Tree Thoroughbred’s Fastnet Rock-Kitty Cash filly.
She was purchased by Bowcock Bloodstock for $200,000 and looks set to return to the Gold Coast for January’s pin-up yearling sale.
Over the past two days of the National Select Weanling Sale almost $8.4 million was given for 244 lots sold – over $1 million more gross than last year’s much larger catalogue.
The average price of $34,415 was up 30 per cent on last year’s $26,274. And the clearance rate rose from 70 per cent to 79.2 per cent.
“It’s been a great couple of day’s selling at the National Weanling Sale,” Magic Millions Managing Director Vin Cox said.
“There’s very good confidence in the industry. Magic Millions has worked hard with the support of vendors and buyers alike.”
“The enthusiasm of all involved was unabated throughout the sale.”
“The increases across the board in this sale has continued the trend of all Magic Millions sales this year and we know that the future participation of vendors and buyers is assured.”
The National Sale continues tomorrow with a general session of broodmares being staged from 10am (Qld time).
Next week from Tuesday the complex will host the National Yearling Sale – with a racehorse session on Thursday afternoon.
