Walking or Dancing scored a deserved big race win and booked an Autumn Carnival campaign when he scored a popular win in the $502,695 R.M.Williams Magic Millions Cup (1400m) at the Gold Coast today.
A five-year-old son of leading Queensland sire Falvelon, Walking or Dancing cruised to the line two lengths clear of former Magic Millions raceday winner Zero Rock.
Last start Sydney winner Mr Unforgettable performed with great distinction to finish third, another length back – but they were no match for the winner this time round.
Brett Partelle, trainer of Walking or Dancing, was relieved that his stable star was able to nab a feature win after a string of excellent races around the country.
“I couldn’t have been happier with him during the week,” Partelle reported. “I said to Bossy that there would have to be a champion there to beat him today.”
“He was spot on today. I couldn’t have had him any better.”
“I’ve got so much faith in the horse. We haven’t had the best of luck – found trouble and I can tell you it will be a big drink tonight.”
“He stretched out like the good horse he is. He’s a group horse.”
“I’m just so happy for the owners. I’m so happy for the staff. I’m just very, very happy.”
“He’s such an underrated horse, this horse. I know he’s had his knockers, but in so many races he’s been so stiff.”
Partelle said Walking or Dancing had done enough for the campaign and he would now be set for some Sydney feature events later in the year.
“He’ll head straight home tomorrow night. He’ll have 10 or 12 days in the paddock to get ready for the good races in the autumn.”
Walking or Dancing is one of six winners, from six to race, for the grand producing and regally related Old Vic mare Young Vic.
As well as Walking or Dancing she is the dam of stakes winner Irongail and the Group One runner-up Aim for Gold.
A Stravinsky filly from Irongail was purchased by Adrian Nicoll from BBA Ireland for $520,000 during the second session of the 2010 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale on Thursday.
Another of Young Vic’s daughters, the unraced mare Youthful Presence, is the dam of the Sandown Guineas winner Kidnapped and fellow stakes winner Deledio.
