Tough Future gave a timely reminder that the 2011 Magic Millions Tasmanian Yearling Sale was just a few days away when he scored a stylish win at Moonee Valley tonight.
The Tasmanian bred was a graduate of the 2007 sale and tonight he made it six wins from 11 starts when he stormed home to score in his 1200 metre event.
Now prepared at Mornington by Mark Riley after kicking away his career in the Apple Isle, Tough Future had won one of his Victorian runs leading into tonight.
Allowed to settle behind the leaders by rider Michael Walker, Tough Future came off the leaders heels in the straight to score a strong victory.
“I think the biggest turn around was that the owner knows him so well and we took the blinkers off him,” Riley said.
“It was a well deserved win for the horse here today and for the owners and I think there’s more in store for him.”
“He was in behind them on the rail and he wasn’t used to that – he’s still learning what it’s all about,” he added.
Tough Future is one of two winners, from two to race, for the twice winning and very consistent Strathmore Lad mare Pride of Shell.
A winner at distance from 1200 to 1950 metres, Pride of Shell is a sister to Hobart Cup winner Future Shock and three quarter sister to stakes winner Fanta’s Revenge and stakes placegetters Strathmore Lass and Strathmore Maid.
The 2011 Magic Millions Tasmanian Yearling Sale will be held at Launceston’s Inveresk Showgrounds on Tuesday.
A quality catalogue has been assembled – among them nine lots by Tough Future’s sire Tough Speed.
The group winning son of Miswaki has six fillies and three colts set to go under the hammer.
