Group One races over the famous Melbourne Spring Carnival beckon Torio’s Quest after he demolished his rivals in today’s Group Two Queensland Guineas (1600m) at Eagle Farm.
Always held in high regard by connections, Torio’s Quest relished the dry track and the step up to a mile with a barnstorming win.
Wyong based trainer Brett Partelle had no hesitation in saying the best wins for Torio’s Quest were still ahead.
“There were a few people who wanted to drop off him,” Partelle said. “I said after the Gold Coast (Magic Millions 3YO Trophy) win he was a Group One horse.”
“Make no mistake about it. That (win) gives me a lot of pleasure and we bet accordingly too and it is great for everyone.”
“I was very close to running him in the Stradbroke, but I thought a mile on a dry track was his go.”
“I’m going to put him away now and get him to Melbourne and you will see a real good horse.”
“The best of him is yet to come. He is going to be a dynamic mile and a quarter horse. He goes to sleep.”
Sent out at $8 with bookmakers and paying over $11 on each Australian tote, Torio’s Quest thrashed his rivals – the nearest of which, the $6.50 fancy Benny’s Buttons was four lengths behind.
Now the winner of five of his 10 runs, Torio’s Quest was purchased by senior owner Bert Vieria for just $15,000 at the 2009 Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale.
Vieria, in consultation with leading bloodstock agent Darrell Ible, took a shine to the youngster from the draft of his breeder, John North’s Bowness Stud.
“What a bargain he’s turned out to be,” Vieria said. “John (North) told us he would develop into a top horse and he’s right!”
“He cost us just $15,000 and we’ve had so much enjoyment with him already. We can’t wait for the spring.”
By Danehill’s former outstanding son Oratorio, Torio’s Quest is one of three winners produced by the unraced Quest for Fame mare Quest for Pleasure.
Quest for Pleasure in turn is a daughter of the Group One Victorian Oaks winner Sandy’s Pleasure.
With the spring features beckoning, Torio’s Quest has already earned his connections over $850,000 from just 10 runs – five of which he has returned the winner.
