Teardrop Rock booked her trip to Tasmania for an Oaks campaign with a barnstorming win at Randwick today.
A daughter of leading young Coolmore Stud sire Fastnet Rock, Teardrop Rock dominated from the front – cruising home for the easiest of wins under star rider Nash Rawiller.
Winning trainer Gai Waterhouse cheered home the filly from the Gold Coast where she’s inspecting potential young stars at the Magic Millions Yearling Sale.
“It was a very dominant win,” Waterhouse said. “She did a great job from the front and she will head off to Tasmania, via Melbourne now.”
Despite almost pulling up to a canter near the line, Teardrop Rock still held a length and three quarter margin over the runner-up Wonderworld.
A Star Thoroughbred purchase from Eureka Thoroughbreds for $150,000 at the 2009 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, Teardrop Rock is one of the most progressive gallopers in Sydney and she looks a ready made Oaks type.
“She had a big weight today. And I love it when they can carry the big weights and still win like that,” Waterhouse added.
“Denise (Martin, syndicator) is keen to win a good race in Tasmanian and this filly looks a great chance.”
Waterhouse said Teardrop Rock would run in the Thousand Guineas (2200m) in Tassie on the 23rd prior to the Tasmanian Oaks (2400m).
A half sister to the group performed Melbourne winner Fusaichi San, Teardrop Rock is from the beautifully related Zabeel mare Satin ‘n’ Silk.
A winner in Sydney, Satin ‘n’ Silk is a full sister to Sybeel and Chamoix and three quarter sister to Rizon.
Further back hers is the family of proven stakes winners including Dopff, Ready to Lift, Khamacruz, Lavender Hill, Prince Ruling, Snow Chief and Lord Westminster.
