Star Thoroughbreds’ Denise Martin can’t wait for the 2011 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
The exclusive syndication partner for champion Sydney horsewoman Gai Waterhouse, Martin loves nothing more than winning and today she was at is again with Teardrop Rock at Randwick.
The Fastnet Rock filly showed great tenacity to hold out her rivals and win impressively under Nash Rawiller in a performance that impressed connections.
“Isn’t she a cracker,” Martin said. “I love this filly because she is so determined.”
“She wants to win,” she added.
“As a young horse she was very immature. She’s out a Zabeel mare – but she’s improving all the time – she’s a beauty.”
Winning rider Nash Rawiller said the filly looked to have a bright future – particularly when her distances increase into the future.
“The pressure was on the whole way,” he pointed out. “But to her credit she dug deep.”
“She was very professional today and got the job done well.”
“She keeps getting the job down and that’s all you can ask,” Rawiller summed up.
Teardrop Rock is a graduate of the McAlpine family’s Eureka Stud and was purchased by Martin for $150,000 at the 2009 Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
She was second at her racetrack debut in early November at Randwick – but has since been unbeaten in three runs.
The filly was a first acceptor last week for January’s $1 million Gold Coast Magic Millions 3YO Guineas (1400m).
“She came from the Magic Millions,” Martin said. “I love the Magic Millions!”
“It’s not beyond the possibility that this filly might go down to Tasmania for the Oaks – she’s Magic Millions so there could be something up there for her in three to four weeks time.”
“I think she’d make a lovely Oaks filly. She’s out of a good Zabeel mare and we love her.”
Teardrop Rock is another promising young galloper by leading young Coolmore Stud stallion Fastnet Rock.
She is a half sister to three winners including the Melbourne winner and group placegetter Fusaichi San.
Her dam, the Sydney winning Zabeel mare Satin ‘n’ Silk, is a full sister to the stakes winners Sybeel and Chamoix and a three quarter sister Rizon.
Further back it is the same family as group winners including Dopff, Our Valpolicella, Ready to Lift, Khamacruz, Lavender Hill and Currigee.
