Tariks Has Wood On Rivals In Brisbane

Beautifully bred filly Tariks made the best possible start to her stint with a new stable when she got home in a driving finish to win at Eagle Farm this afternoon.

Formerly trained by part owner Lee Freedman, Tariks was stepping out for the first time in a month and first time for Brisbane trainer Kelly Schweida.

With the stable’s rising star apprentice Mitchell Wood in the saddle, Tariks got home to beat Wind Gusts by a neck.

Wood, in notching his second city win, was able to get the filly across from an outside barrier and sit just behind the leaders before making his move in the straight.

Tariks returns“It was a good tough win,” Wood said. “All credit to the filly – she did a big job from the wide alley.”

“She fought on gamely in the straight,” he added.

Wood, a third generation rider who is a runaway leader in the Gold Coast apprentice premiership, was thrilled to have been given the ride aboard Tariks in her Queensland debut.

“I was delighted to be given the opportunity from the owners and Kelly to ride such a quality filly.”

During her 15 start career Tariks has met and matched it with some quality performers.

She ran second to Speedy Natalie in a Dequetteville Stakes and was beaten three quarters of a length by Starspangledbanner at Caulfield earlier in the season.

Tariks, a three time stakes race runner-up by Danehill’s record breaking son Rock of Gibraltar, is a valuable broodmare prospect for the future.

Her dam, the dual stakes placed Rory’s Jester mare Twin Peaks, is a full sister to Wyndam Easy and three quarter sister to Magic Millions Classic winner Catnipped.

It is the same family as stakes winners including Swiss Ross, Chuckle, Bleveeka, Sister Havana, Life’s a Bounty, Miss Prospect, Reward for Effort, Consular and Full at Last.
