Subarc lived up to his promise and showed he was destined for bigger wins in the future when he steamed home to win at Randwick this afternoon.
A two-year-old son of Stratum, Subarc was heavily backed with bookmakers and he delighted his supporters when he proved too strong for his promising juveniles.
Trainer Chris Waller has always held a good opinion of Subarc and he was glad he delivered on that promise on the track at his first run for the preparation.
“The win will do this horse the world of good,” the Group One trainer said after the strong win.
“He possesses plenty of ability but needs to get his concentration in order.”
“He’s on his way now,” Waller added.
Winning rider Nash Rawiller was also impressed.
“I was a bit worried when the other horse (Galah) kicked in the straight, but my bloke really got to the line strong.”
“He’s a promising horse,” Rawiller added.
Today’s juvenile winner was purchased from the draft of Widden Stud by Tim Roberts at last year’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale for $135,000.
Subarc ($3.80-$4-$3.10 fav) finished too well in the straight to beat the regally bred colt Galah ($2.50-$4) by a short neck.
Fellow Magic Millions graduate Bushcraft ($4.20-$6-$5.50), a youngster by Aussie Rules, was third, another three lengths back.
The win was also welcomed by the team from Glastonbury Farms, who as agent will put Subarc’s yearling half sister under the hammer at next month’s National Yearling Sale at the Gold Coast.
The filly, catalogued as lot 1872, is bay in colour and is by Belle du Jour and Bollinger’s sire, the internationally proven Dehere.
Subarc is the first foal for the unraced, but well related mare Corporate.
By Mt. Livermore, Corporate is from the stakes winning Zafonic mare Zante.
A classy filly in her own right, Zante is a three quarter sister to Group One winner and well regarded sire Xaar.
It is also the family of other sires including Senure, Ild De Jinsky and Masterclass.
