The full brother to Stratum has taken the early running during today’s first session of the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
Leading Melbourne trainer Peter Moody struck late in the bidding process and secured the prized lot for his stable at $850,000.
Moody said the son of Redoute’s Choice was purchased for a group of stable clients.
“We have not finalised anything yet. He is a nice colt – so happy to have him in the yard.”
Bidding the colt kicked away at $300,000 and quickly rose through the $500,000 mark before hitting $850,000 when auctioneer Steve Davis let his hammer fall.
“He is a nice quality colt and I thought he was the colt of the sale. He has an exceptional pedigree being a brother to a Slipper winner and just an all round athletic colt.”
Moody said he was keen to buy the colt and could have gone a fraction higher to secure him at the auction.
“We would have been prepared to go a little bit more, but we not have to thankfully,” Moody added.
The colt’s full brother Stratum is a graduate of the same sale ring and went on to win the Golden Slipper Stakes before retiring to Widden Stud where he has met with exceptional early success.
Last season he was crowned the Champion First Season Sire of Australia. His daughter Crystal Lily scored a dramatic win in Golden Slipper last year.
The colt was a member of the quality draft from New South Wales’ based thoroughbred nursery, Reavill Farm.
The first session of the sale continues. Session Two commences at 11am (Qld time) tomorrow.
