Steel Zip will most likely head south after notching his third stakes success in Saturday’s listed Members’ Cup (1600m) at Eagle Farm.
It was the second stakes success in three starts for the classy four-year-old following victory in the recent Sunshine Coast Cup (1400m) at Caloundra.
And now Deagon trainer Pat Duff is looking south as he attempts more stakes victories for his $13,000 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale bargain buy.
“That was a pretty good win and I hope the weather down south stays the same as it has lately,” Duff told AAP.
“He slugged it out all the way and I’ll have a think about it but he’ll probably head down for the Newmarket Handicap at Newcastle.”
“He’s a hard horse to place in the winter and if I don’t send him down he’ll be freshened for the winter,” Duff added.
Fellow Magic Millions graduate Tomboy lost no admirers with her close second placing and trainer Robert Heathcote said his charge would also now head douth.
“I’m delighted with the way she has been going and she’ll defininitely go to Sydney now,” Heathcote told AAP.
Yesterday’s stakes winner Steel Zip is one of ten stakes performers produced by the Canadian group winning Geiger Counter stallion Canadian Silver.
The handsome grey is the pin up performer to date for the Eagle Farm two-year-old winning Cossack Warrior mare Zip.
Zip in turn is from the stakes erformed and well related Boysie Boy mare Plenty of Polish. She in turn is a sister to the Oakleigh Plate winner Harpagus.
Steel Zip, who like Written Tycoon is a graduate of Daandine Stud, was plucked by Duff for $13,000 from that draft at the 2009 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
With five wins and six runner-up placings from just 21 outings, Steel Zip has earned $326,000 and that figure looks destined to rise over the coming weeks and months.
