Sizzing Return From Star Juvenile

Quality Brisbane colt Sizzling showed he was on track on for a lucrative winter campaign with a stunning first up win in today’s listed Ken Russell Memorial Classic (1200m) at the Gold Coast.

Racing for the first time since a close up fourth in the $2 million BMW Magic Millions 2YO Classic, Sizzling couldn’t have been more impressive streaking home to win by fourth and a half lengths.

The warm favourite gave his connections some concerns during the early stages of the race when he struggled to keep up – but they needn’t had worried as his class shone through late in the race.

Despite being forced deep rounding the turn, the son of Snitzel quickly reeled in the leaders and raced clear to win brilliantly.

“Brilliant,” trainer Kelso Wood told AAP from the mounting yard after the race. “That’s all I can say.”

“I was very worried when he was slow away but Chris rode him brilliantly.”

“He’ll run in the Champagne Classic at Doomben next start then go to the Sires’ Produce and TJ Smith.”

Winning rider Chris Munce said the colt didn’t possess early speed, but he certainly did pack a power finish.

“He’s just got no early pace,” he said.

“He’s all class but he’s very laid back and not a bounce and run type.”

“It was a very good win and he was very strong at the finish,” Munce added.

A $260,000 purchase for renowned bloodstock agent John Foote from the Evergreen Stud Farm draft at last year’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, Sizzling is an exciting prospect for the coming weeks.

Leading home a one-two finish for Oakleigh Plate winning sire Snitzel, Sizzling is the first named foal for the stakes performed mare Admirelle.

A daughter of former star Magic Millions graduate General Nediym, Admirelle was a winner at two and earned black type when third in the Keith Mackay Handicap.

Sizzling’s dam Admirelle is from the Flemington stakes winning Alzao mare Laudemio. Also in the family are stakes winners Loving Cup, Fullazz, Shy Hero and Pittance.
