Pear Tart Scores Sweet Guineas Win

Pear Tart lived up to a sizzling track gallop earlier in the week with a valuable win in the Group Two Queensland Guineas (1400m) at Eagle Farm today.

A well bred daughter of Dehere, Pear Tart has always been held in high regard by connections and in her first run in stakes grade she couldn’t have been more impressive.

The success was the fifth in just eight runs for Pear Tart – a promising filly who’s preparation was thrown into chaos after a floating incident about six weeks ago.

“She’s a very promising filly,” a delighted John Thompson said after the race. “The preparation she had into the race was interrupted so it was a great effort.”

“About six weeks ago she won impressively and on the float trip home she cut her head open quite bad and needed 14 stitches above the eye.”

“She missed a bit of work but over the past seven days she’s really come on and Jeff rode her the other morning and said she worked brilliantly.”

“Of all of the horses he worked he reported she was the best,” Thompson added.

What’s next for Pear Tart? Well Thompson isn’t exactly sure.

“It’s nice to get that one under the belt. She’s pretty much a push button horse and she gets to the line really well – it was a big effort.”

Pear Tart is turning out a great value buy. The Patinack Farm team purchased her from the Makybe draft at the 2010 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale for $45,000.

The exciting filly has already won almost $260,000 from just a handful of starts.

The 73rd individual stakes winner for champion sire Dehere, Pear Tart hails from an outstanding family.

Her dam, the Deauville placed Sadler’s Wells mare Tangerine Dream, is a full sister to French stakes winner Sensible, three quarter blood sister to Special Gallery and half sister to group performer Ciel Rouge.

A member of one the great thoroughbred families, Pear Tart’s pedigree includes stars including Flying Spur, Encosta de Lago, Smackover Creek, Musidora and Aube Indienne.
