Leading Queensland horsewoman Helen Page described winning the $101,875 Queensland Events Magic Millions 2YO Plate (1200m) at the Gold Coast today with Power of Ed as a real thrill.

“He’s won a $100,000 race,” Page beamed. “And on the right day.”

“I just love the Magic Millions!”

Power of Ed produced a brilliant finishing burst in the straight to reel in the early leader Paris Blu and Melbourne visitor Tricarico.

Page was confident that Power of Ed could win at his previous start in the Magic Millions Prelude, but she was disappointed with the ride on that occasion behind Spirit of Boom.

“He wasn’t ridden well. He was ridden like a horse today.”

She had a good opinion of the Jet Spur youngster and thinks he can measure up to some feature races during the Winter Carnival.

“I love the two-year-olds – it’s just great.”

“It’s a good little family. They are lucky owners – just fantastic people to train for.”

Power of Ed will now head to the paddock for a break following his feature success this afternoon.

“Probably the paddock. It’s amazing – the horse only had his first trial on December 1 and I didn’t know whether he could come back after that.”

“In his trial he ran a faster time than Shoot Out – so I knew I had a horse.”

“I will just look after him. It’s nice to see a horse with a turn of foot and he’s always shown that.”

“He relaxes as well – all the positive things.”

A $55,000 purchase for Page from the draft of Epic Farm at the 2009 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, Power of Ed is by the exciting young Glenlogan Park sire Jet Spur.

Power of Ed is from the winning Iglesia mare Precious Epic – a half sister to smart Perth black type performer Truckin Tobie.

Precious Epic is also a half sister to the unraced dam of Ken Russell Classic placegetter Power of George.

There are a number of quality yearlings by Jet Spur still to be sold over the remaining three sessions of the 2010 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
