Nosteppins became the third winner for her exciting young freshman sire Snippetson and provided her connections with a lightning return when she impressively won at Cranbourne on Sunday.
The promising two-year-old filly was only purchased by trainer John White and client Brad McPherson at October’s Magic Millions National Horses in Training Sale.
Buying under the banner of Peninsula Thoroughbreds, White paid just $13,000 for the Holbrook Thoroughbreds offering.
Just over two months later the filly has proven herself a winner and given her connections an early thrill.
“She’s a very professional little filly,” a delighted winning trainer John White said.
White and McPherson were among a group of astute Victorian based buyers at the Gold Coast auction chasing a ready made racetrack performer.
“I liked the pedigree – her grandam was a half to Burst,” White noted.
“And she really looked like a runner. She did well in her breeze up.”
“She suited our budget and really looked value for money at the time.”
White said he would see how the filly pulled up before deciding whether she has another run or is given a break.
Either way there’s little doubt that Nosteppins is a filly with a future who is bound to be giving her connections plenty more thrills into the future.
In Sunday’s race the $200,000 Sydney purchase Mediate was sent out the favourite, but that colt was no match for the winner.
And if you’re wondering why Nosteppins is so called – read it backwards!
There are 19 yearlings by Snippetson catalogued for this week’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
Meanwhile, further south the day’s feature race in Victoria, the $50,000 Bairnsdale Cup was won by the Ricky Maund trained Encroacher.
A gelded son of Rubiton, raced by Kevin and Tanith O’Brien, Encroacher was sent out the second favourite and beat the popular elect Escape Artist in an all Magic Millions finish.
The O’Briens, best known through the exploits of their Magic Millions 3YO Trophy winning filly Gold Edition, went to $42,500 to buy Encroacher at the 2005 Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale.
The talented gelding has now won over $168,000.
