Huge congratulations to the eight female owners of Faraway Town – the winner of the 2016 Magic Million’s Racing Women’s Bonus.
The Matthew Smith trained filly overcame a slow start to finish sixth in the Jeep Magic Millions 2YO Classic but significantly was the first horse past the post 100% owned or leased by women.
The group of ladies led by managing owner Christine Cook, collected the $325,000 first place Racing Women’s Bonus prizemoney in addition to race prizemoney of $10,000. That’s a cool $335,000 for running sixth in the race!
Magic Millions Racing Women Patron Zara Phillips MBE and Magic Millions co-owner Katie Page-Harvey were on hand to make the presentation to the overjoyed group of ladies.
Faraway Town was one of five horses registered for the Racing Women’s Bonus, to take their place in the 2016 running of the Jeep Magic Millions 2YO Classic.
We congratulate the female connections of all five Racing Women eligible horses (Faraway Town, Zelady’s Night Out, Highland Beat, Rainy Day Woman & Punishing) for their tremendous achievement in making the final field of the race.
It was fantastic to see the mounting yard prior to the race filled with so many women enjoying their racehorse ownership experience and to meet representatives of all Racing Women eligible horses. As well as Christine Cook, we sincerely thank Sylvana Surace (Zelady’s Night Out), Kym Heritage (Highland Beat), Annie Cahill (Rainy Day Woman) and Jane Brosnan (Punishing) as representatives of each horse for their time in in helping us promote the important role women play in our thoroughbred industry.
