The international winning run of graduates of the Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale continued over the weekend with outstanding winners in Singapore and Macau.
One More Minute, a son of Iglesia, made it three wins (and an unlucky second) from four runs when he rattled hom to win a $65,000 Graduation event at Kranji over 1600 metres.
A $42,000 purchase from the Kirkliston Stud draft at the 2009 Adelaide Yearling Sale, One More Minute (pictured) is trained by Steven Burridge and was ridden to victory by the red hot Joao “Magic” Moreira.
Under Moreira’s urgings, One More Minute raced away over the concluding stages to beat Park Avenue by three and three quarter lengths.
“He was very short in the betting and I must admit I had my heart in my mouth a couple of times during the race,” Burridge said.
“He missed the start a bit and then he was under pressure on the turn, but he responded really well.”
“He’s so relaxed that he gives the impression he will develop into a nice stayer. It’s nice to get a nice stayer in the makingas it is pretty hard to find the right horse.”
Meanwhile, Macau star Northern Champion enhanced his impressive race record when he strolled home in Macau over the weekend.
A son of Willow Grove Stud based sire Mugharreb, Northern Champion has raced on seven occasions for five wins and two second placings.
He is trained by Vincent Chong and was ridden to victory by Fausto Durso.
He was purchased for just $2,250 by Port Lincoln based horsewoman Jenny Gow-Whyte at the 2009 Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale. He was bred and sold by Riverside Stud.
Gow-Whyte, best known as the former owner and one time trainer of Odysseus, sold the youngster privately after he ran an eye catching second in a Morphettville Parks trial in July.
Known in Australia as Janiak, Northern Champion was three parts of a length behind Mark Minervini’s classy galloper Addiction to Rock. Third in the trial as city winner and Group Two runner-up Always Discreet.
Northern Champion is one of two winners produced by the unraced Ascot Knight mare Ascot Prancer.
Ascot Prancer is from an unraced daughter of stakes winner Tandra Gee – the grandam of stakes winner Joku and stakes placegetter Palabiro.
Further back his is the same family as international stars including El Gran Senor, Try My Best, Solar, Dr Johnson, Chinchon and Solar.
