Five O’Clock booked his place in the field for January’s $2 million BMW Magic Millions 2YO Classic with an impressive win at Doomben today.
The juvenile son of Dane Shadow got well back in the field, but came with a barnstorming run to reel in the highly fancied Noisy Ocean and win brilliantly.
The gelding, a $50,000 purchase at January’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, looks a youngster with a future for master trainer Alan Bailey.
After winning (on protest) on debut, Five O’Clock had excuses when he finished third at Playtime on a wet track at his most recent run.
“He wanted to hang the other day (when third),” Bailey told AAP after the win.
“He’s still very immature and doesn’t know what it is all about yet.”
“I put some new gear on him on Tuesday and he worked brilliantly so I decided to go with it today.”
“Glen rode him quietly as I told him and he hit the line really strongly.”
Bailey said Queensland’s richest race would be Five O’Clock’s next run and his last effort before a spell.
“I don’t like overtaxing young horses so he’ll have one more start in the Magic Millions and then go for a break.”
“He’ll need to draw an alley in the Magic Millions as it’s the type of race you can’t afford to give them a start.”
The $2 million BMW Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m) will be run at the Gold Coast on January 15.
