Magic Success For Plain Magic

Racetree’s Kevin Dixon, a regular buyer and seller at Magic Millions Yearling Sales, was in the winner’s stall at the Gold Coast today when quality mare Plain Magic won the $200,895 Paspaley Magic Millions Fillies & Mares Handicap (1300m).

Dixon, who purchased the mare for a mere $19,000 at the 2007 sales, was beaming in the winner’s stall along with his trainer Kelly Schweida.

Schweida was confident leading into the race after the daughter of Magic Albert cruised home at her previous run in Brisbane.

“It was a good win last start,” Schweida commented. “She’s really put it together.”

“We were a little bit worried with the speed and also where the best going was.”

“Jim rode her perfect.”

“She had the ten alley and he was always going to be a touch aggressive and see what they wanted to do early.”

“He was going to lead if nothing wanted to lead. But there ended up to be a bit of speed inside her so he let her go and it was a good win.”

Plain Magic, sent out the popular elect, cruised home to beat Kryptelon by three lengths.

Another three parts of a length back in third place was the Liam Birchley trained black type mare Calm Before.

Schweida said Plain Magic had always shown good ability and today’s win was just rewards for a quality performer.

“She’s always shown us something. From day one she’s showed us ability.”

“I said to the owner this goes good, but she’s very plain and that is how she got her name.”

“Her last two wins have been good. She’s been racing in good quality races.”

By Magic Albert, who was third in the 2001 Magic Millions 2YO Classic behind Excellerator, Plain Magic is already a black type performer and has now won Dixon an ever increasing $278,900.

A half sister to the Melbourne winner Mistry, Plain Magic is from the twice Sydney winner Glow Misty for Me.

A daughter of Forest Glow, Glow Misty for Me is from the Magic Night Stakes placed Papal Power mare Misty Power.

Further back it is the family of Group Two Western Australian Guineas winner River Mist as well as Group One winning sprinter Notoire and Magic Millions 3YO Trophy winner Tempest Tost.
