Locals On Board As Femina Stays Best

Quality mare Femina Fashion gave the locals plenty to cheer about when she romped home in the $200,000 Strategic Airlines Magic Millions Cup (1800) at the Gold Coast.

Prepared at the track by Trevor Whittington, Femina Fashion led throughout and kicked well clear of her rivals in the straight and the result was never in doubt.

Femina Fashion raced clear under Glyn Schofield to beat previous Stayers Cup winner Pepperwood by two and a quarter lengths.

Fusakeo, for Gai Waterhouse and Glen Boss, was another length further back in third place.

It was the second straight win for Femina Fashion who last Saturday was an all the way winner at Randwick.

“It’s a great feeling,” Whittington said from the winner’s stall. “Glyn rode her beautiful.”

“She’s a good filly – a really good filly,” he added.

“The only concern I had was the track – whether she would get through it – she’s won on the slow before but had one go on a heavy track and she was no good in the heavy.”

“I thought the track would be picking up all the way through and we took the gamble in staying in the race and hoping for improvement. It’s paid off.”

Femina Fashion is raced by Judy McCallum and Gayle Stanley. McCallum purchased her as a yearling for just $35,000 at the 2008 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

The Racetree bred and sold four-year-old mare has won five of her 21 starts and has earned $338,200 and importantly for connections she’s a valuable stakes winner with a pedigree.

The Shamardal mare earned black type when she won the listed Gold Coast Bracelet. She also ran second in the Group Three Doomben Roses.

She is one of two stakes winners produced by the city winning Jeune mare So Tempted.

So Tempted is a full sister to former smart staying race filly Lolita Star – a winner of the Wakeful Stakes and plraced in the VRC Oaks.

As well as Femina Fashion, So Tempted is the dam of the South African based Group One winner Happy Archer (Dubawi).
