Lindop Wins Magic Premiership

Trailblazing Adelaide jockey Clare Lindop was rewarded for her successful 2009/10 racing season at Flemington on Saturday.

Lindop was announced as the winner of the Magic Millions Leading Female Jockey Premiership and presented with her award.

With 28 wins aboard Magic Millions graduates for the season, Lindop finished two wins clear of leading Perth based apprentice Kyra Yuill.

Fellow Adelaide rider Libby Hopwood (25 wins) was a further win back in third place in the hotly contested premiership.

While Lindop wasn’t able to get in the winner’s stall at Flemington on the weekend – she was delighted to be presented with her premiership win by Magic Millions Media Manager Greg Irvine.

“This is a great thrill,” Lindop said. “I want to thank Magic Millions for recognising jockeys and trainers with these premierships.”

The premiership win continued the great run of success achieved by Lindop aboard Magic Millions graduates.

Her two biggest wins – the Victoria Derby and the Magic Millions 2YO Classic – were aboard MM stars, Rebel Raider and Augusta Proud.

“Clare has been a trailblazer in Australia – being the first female rider to win a Victorian Classic as well as the Magic Millions Classic at the Gold Coast,” Irvine said.

“In the MM premiership she snuck home in a great three way battle to edge out star WA apprentice Kyra Yuill and Adelaide based apprentice Libby Hopwood.”

“Clare and Libby went head to head all season on the leaderboard and Kyra made a late charge in the final few weeks of the season,” he added.
