The lethal trainer-jockey combination of Steven O’Dea and Ryan Wiggins struck again at Eagle Farm today when talented filly Eureka Dubai won in brilliant fashion.
Raced by her trainer, Eureka Dubai raced clear of her rivals in the straight to romp home in her maiden success – but by the ease of her victory it certainly won’t be her last.
The daughter of Dubawi was sent out one of the major players at her first run for the campaign after an impressive barrier trial win at Doomben in mid-February.
The filly had shown good ability at her previous starts – placed in three of her six runs and never having missed a cheque.
“She’s an honest little filly,” O’Dea commented. “She always tries very hard.”
O’Shea said he came to today’s meeting quietly confident on the strength of her eye catching trackwork and impressive trial win a couple of weeks ago.
“She trialled nice the other day and hit the line really well in the trial.”
The win was the 7th from the past 16 runners for O’Dea – Wiggins has ridden all of those winners from the 13 rides over the same period for the stable.
O’Dea purchased the filly for just $15,000 from the Lyndhurst Stud draft at the 2009 Magic Millions QTIS 600 Yearling Sale at the Gold Coast.
She is by Dubai Millennium’s outstanding Irish Two Thousand Guineas winning son Dubawi – the sire of Australian bred, Magic Millions sold, South African based Group One winner Happy Archer.
His other Australian bred stakes winners include Secret Admirer, Cellarmaster, Golden Millennium and Zubbaya.
Dubawi’s international stars including Makti, Poet’s Voice, Lucky Nine, Worthadd and Monterosso.
Eureka Dubai is from a two-year-old winning mare by influential broodmare sire Semipalatinsk.
Eureka Tiara, as the mare is known, is a full sister to the Kewney Stakes winner Eureka Jewel (the dam of Sermon) and the city winner Kisses of Gold (dam of stakes winners Spurred On, Live Theatre-Asali).
