The upcoming Magic Millions National Weanling Sale received a big boost today when promising kiwi based juvenile Platinum Kingdom won the listed Champagne Stakes (1200m) at Riccarton.
A son of promising young Victorian based sire Magnus, Platinum Kingdom got home under accomplished horsewoman Kelly Myers to win the black type event by a half length.
The youngster was astutely purchased by leading kiwi based agent Paul Beamish for $67,500 from the Rothwell Park draft at the 2010 Magic Millions National Weanling Sale.
The colt is prepared by Beamish’s good friend, leading trainer Lisa Latta and today was the second win for the promising galloper.
Platinum Kingdom is the first runner to date for the unraced imported Giant’s Causeway mare Miss Rangoon.
Miss Rangoon, who is from a daughter of Mr. Prospector, is a half sister to the Santa Anita graded stakes winner Spring Meadow.
Platinum Kingdom’s third dam, the Northern Dancer mare Ladyago, was a stakes willer of the Ellis Audubon Oaks, while her dam in turner, the His Majesty mare Queen of Song, was a six time stakes winner in the United States.
The latest weanling from Miss Rangoon – an attractive bay or brown colt by leading international sire Street Cry – is being prepared for the upcoming Magic Millions National Weanling Sale at the Gold Coast.
The youngster is being prepared by Rothwell Park and is catalogued as lot number 692.
