Doubtful JackDoubtful Jack earned a crack at racing’s elite level with his barnstorming first up win in today’s Group Three $200,000 Bobbie Lewis Handicap (1200m) at Flemington.

Racing for the first time after an outstanding winter campaign that rounded out with a stakes win in the Winter Championship Final, Doubtful Jack demoralised his rivals in the feature sprint.

Winning trainer Peter Moody, who purchased the Not a Single Doubt galloper for $100,000 from the 2008 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, was delighted with the three and a quarter length rout.

“That was very pleasing,” Moody commented.

“There’s no doubt he excels on the wet ground but he’s just been dominant. And who know’s, the wet might hang around.”

Doubtful JackMoody said connections hadn’t done a lot with their latest star since he was last seen at Flemington with a six length victory in stakes company.

“He had a couple of weeks at Belgrave South and a couple of weeks with Peter Clark at Murchison.”

“We just poked around with him. He was a very fit horse – he had five or six runs during the winter – so we’ve just kept him ticking over.”

“He’s such a laid back character and he doesn’t knock himself around.”

“He looks after himself and he’s really enjoying it.”

Doubtful Jack will have the chance to join racing’s Group One club at his next couple of runs.

Peter Moody“The aim has been to go to the Rupert Clark (Stakes) and the Toorak (Handicap) and traditionally September has been our wettest month for the last four or five years – I just hope the rain hasn’t gone off early.”

Raced by good stable client Allan Meads, Doubtful Jack is a son of former outstanding Magic Millions graduate Not a Single Doubt.

He is a half brother to two winners including the four time victor Furla.

That daughter of Spartacus is the dam of current Gold Coast trained speedster Fab Fevola – a stakes placegetter in Queensland.

Doubtful Jack’s dam, the unraced Marscay mare Tootside Roll, is a full sister to the Adelaide group winner Honour Code.
