Woorim staked his claim for next month’s Group One Stradbroke Handicap with a stunning last to first win in today’s Group Three BRC Sprint (1350m) at Doomben.
The fourth Winter Carnival group winner for leading Brisbane trainer Robert Heathcote, Woorim raced in his usual fashion, well back in the field before coming with a strong burst between runners under Damian Browne to score.
Heathcote has always held a big opinion of Woorim and he hopes he may be able to provide him with his first Group One winner in a few weeks.
“I did people he had the best finish of any racehorse I’ve ever had anything to do with,” Heathcote said.
“I said to my wife and daughter coming to the 400 – he’s last, we can’t win from there, but wow what a run!”
“Someone asked me the other day what was my best Stradbroke chance and I said if I get this guy in and it’s a dry track it’s going to take a good horse to beat him.”
“Hopefully this win might get us a penalty to get us in there (the Stradbroke).”
“He’s an extraordinary horse. It looked the backmarkers were probably not that suited coming into the straight, but gee what an enormous finish he’s got.”
“Credit to (winning rider) Damien Browne – his timing is impeccable.”
“Down in Melbourne in the Rupert Clarke he was two lengths off being my first Group One winner – hopefully he can rectify that in a couple of weeks.”
Heathcote said his other stable star Buffering may also be in the Stradbroke – but he will be at the head of the field, while Woorim, if he gets a run, will be near the rear.
A graduate of the 2007 Magic Millions National Yearling Sale, Woorim is now the winner of seven races and along with nine placings has earned over $440,000.
The win was the second at stakes level for Woorim following victory in the listed Glasshouse Handicap at the Sunshine Coast last year.
A son of leading Queensland sire Show a Heart, Woorim is a full brother to the stakes performed six time winner My Limit – an earner of over $360,000.
Dam Wabble, a city winner of five by Canadian Silver, is a half sister to the stakes placed juvenile Indiana Storm.
Show a Heart is well represented in the upcoming Magic Millions National Sale at the Gold Coast.
