Promising youngster Can’t Hartley Wait made history when he scored a highly impressive debut win at Bunbury today.
A filly prepared by leading young horseman Ben Pearce, Can’t Hartley Wait sat outside the leader Jessica’s Choice until the straight when she quickly assumed the lead.
She is the first winner for her sire, the well related Danetime horse Hartley’s Spirit from just his third runner.
The filly, a graduate of Alwyn Park Stud, was purchased by Ben Pearce’s father Colin for just $2,100 from last April’s Magic Millions Perth Thoroughbred Sale at Belmont.
Race rider Peter Knuckey was ‘cool as a cucumber’ as he partnered the filly to a most impressive half length victory.
Can’t Hartley Wait is one of four winners produced by the lightly raced Is It True mare Boutelle – a half sister to group winner Action Pak and Singapore star Classic Dragon.
Hartley’s Spirit is a member of one of Western Australia’s top black type families – being from the unraced Protos mare Prohurst.
Prohurst is the dam of the group winning juvenile Paradise Park – the dam of seven time stakes winner Grand Nirvana – as well as stakes winners La Sirenuse and Hartleys Dreamand stakes placegetter Propel.
As well as being a grand producer, Prohurst is a beautifully related mare – he is a full sister to the dam of Hot Shot Brother and Cool Business and half sister to Machine Gun Tom and Eastern Mystique (dam of Melbourne Cup winner Rogan Josh).
Prohurst is also a half sister to the dams of stakes winners Exhilarating and Corporate James.
Hartley’s Spirit stands at Bellbridge Park where last season he stood at a fee of $3,300 (inc GST).
