High Chaparral Success Boosts National Sale

Three top prospects heading to June’s Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale at the Gold Coast received another boost when Queensland Oaks contender Fairy Oak won the Group Three Auraria Stakes (1800m) at Morphettville on Sunday.

Prepared by leading Caulfield horseman Peter Moody, Fairy Oak took the big step from a maiden win to group company and did in style – scoring a short neck win over El Spark and Legislature.

The filly is yet another classic performer for her sire – boom Sadler’s Wells sire High Chaparral.

The champion staying three-year-old of his generation, High Chaparral won 10 of his 13 race starts – including the English and Irish Derbys and two runnings of the Breeders’ Cup Turf.

A placegetter in the Arc, High Chaparral also won an Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown and a Racing Post Trophy at Doncaster – both run at Group One level.

In the past seven months the High Chaparral domination has continued – this time through the exploits of his progeny at tracks around the world.

This season in Australia his progeny have won the WS Cox Plate (So You Think), VRC Derby (Monaco Consul) and the AJC Derby (Shoot Out).

In fact when Shoot Out, a $15,000 Magic Millions bargain buy, won the AJC Derby he led home a trifecta for High Chaparral with Descarado second and Monaco Consul third.

And now with Fairy Oak looking set to add another Classic win for her sire it seems there is no stopping the High Chaparral progeny.

Buyers at the country’s most popular broodmare sale in June will get the chance to purchase one of three attractive breeding prospects in foal to High Chaparral.

The three, consigned by Fig Tree Thoroughbreds (As Agent), have great pedigrees and would be a welcome addition to any breeding farm around the world.
