Leading Perth horseman David Harrison nabbed his “colt of the sale” during today’s second session of the Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale at Belmont.
Harrison went to $180,000 to secure the colt from the draft of Toreby Park, who acted as agent for clients of Mungrup Stud.
“He’s a nice, big and strong Oratorio colt,” Harrison said. “He’s a lot like (stable star) Waratah’s Secret.”
“He was my pick of the sale and I’m delighted to have been able to buy him.”
By the red hot Mungrup Stud based sire Oratorio (Stravinsky), the colt was catalogued as lot 138.
He is a half brother to the Placid Ark Stakes winner Metallic Storm – a winner of 10 races and almost $350,000.
The colt is the second most expensive lot to date at the sale – trailing only the Street Sense-Jezabeel filly purchased by Justin Bahen for $200,000 last night.
Meanwhile, Harrison said Waratah’s Secret was in preparation for a Group One campaign set to culminate with a trip to Adelaide.
“We’re setting him for The Goodwood in Adelaide and he will have a lead up run in either Perth or Adelaide before that race,” Harrison noted.
Waratah’s Secret, a gradaute of the Perth Yearling Sale, was won eight of his 14 starts and earned well over $500,000.
The second session of the 2011 Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale continues at the Belmont Park Sales Complex.
