While confident that his exciting youngster could win, Gollan said he was slightly surprised by the size of the winning margin.

“I expected him to win this horse today,” Gollan said. “He’s a really, really good colt this fellow.”

“He’s the best horse I’ve ever had. That’s probably not saying a lot like some other trainers, but he’s pretty smart.”

“His half brother won this race impressively last year. Many say the track flattered him last year – but he was a pretty sharp two-year-old.”

“Everything is going well. We’re very happy with him and it was good to get him around this track as well.”

“All going well he’ll be in the big race in seven days time,” Gollan summed up.

In the run to the line Spirit of Boom had a seven length margin over General Nediym youngster General Shareef, while the winner’s stablemate Tiyatro (Encosta de Lago) was a short half head back in third place.
