Brilliant Shamardal colt Gingerbread Man continued his winning ways with a faultless display in tonight’s Singapore Group Two Three Year-Old Classic (1400m) at Kranji.
Prepared by former leading New Zealand trainer Bruce Marsh, Gingerbread Man was last seasons champion two year-old in Singapore.
Although sent out favourite in tonight’s prestigious Group Two event, punters were weary of Gingerbread Mans’ wide alley.
But supporters had little to fear in running, with jockey Vlad Duric guiding Gingerbread Man to the fence within the first furlong.
“Once he got there (to the fence) he just switched off. He is a real little professional,” said Duric.
After travelling comfortably in the box seat throughout, Gingerbread Man’s margin at the post was a comfortable one and half length’s.
Gingerbread Man will now target the Singapore Group One S$500,000 Singapore Guineas (1600m) on May 20, with Duric suggesting that the mile journey is well within reach now.
“He ran the seven (furlongs) out and I would say the mile will be no problem,” said Duric.
Gingerbread Man was purchased by Magic Millions Bloodstock Consultant and Auctioneer James Dawson for owners the Gingerbread Stable for just $30,000 at the 2009 Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
“He is a very good horse and we are all very proud of him. We felt we had the best horse here tonight,” said trainer Bruce Marsh.
The Singapore Classic win extends Gingerbread Mans record to an impressive 7 wins from just 10 starts.
Gingerbread Man is out of the Hurricane Sky mare Quaffle, a half sister to brilliant Queensland stakeswinning filly Golden Snitch.
This is the family of the aptly named Iron Horse, winner of 11 races between 1000m to 2800m including a Group One Epsom Handicap victory.
