Progressive four-year-old Geffen notched his first city win and his third in just eight runs when an easy winner in the Freeway Hotel Artarmon Handicap (1900m) at Canterbury today.
A member of the all conquering Gai Waterhouse stable, Geffen raced clear in the straight to record the easiest of wins.
The progressive galloper showed he was on track for Saturday races and a possible crack at black type with the performance that thrilled his connections.
“He’s the most lovely horse, this Geffen,” Waterhouse said following the win.
“He came away and won by a good margin,” she added.
Geffen was sent out the second favourite in the race following a close up fifth at Canterbury. He won his previous race at Kembla Grange.
The versatile performer is now the winner of races at 1100, 1600 and 1900 metres.
In today’s race Geffen ($3.50) raced clear in the straight to beat runner-up Lining ($5) by four lengths.
A nose back in third place was the favourite Fetes Alfresco ($3.30).
A four-year-old gelding, Geffen was bred and sold by the Ramsey family’s Turangga Farm for $360,000 at the 2007 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
While he’s still well short of his purchase price, Waterhouse expects the lightly raced performer to continue to race his way through the grades.
As it stands he has three wins and a second from just eight runs and earnings of $41,890.
Geffen, by leading Arrowfield Stud sire Flying Spur, is the only runner to date for his dam Corporate Queen.
A daughter of British Banker, Corporate Queen was a classy galloper who won six races and earned over $160,000.
She won the listed Services’ Memorial Cup at Randwick and was second in a Group Three Grafton Cup and fourth in a Group One Adelaide Cup.
Corporate Queen in turn is from the New Zealand winniner Nuclear Pulse mare Libeala, a half sister to George Main Stakes and Stradbroke Handicap winner Adam.
