The recent racetrack success for Fastnet Rock has stretched to the sales ring with one of his two-year-olds lighting up the recent Hong Kong International Sale at Sha Tin.
The gelding, an Australian bred Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale graduate, sold for the second highest price at the auction and the highest for the select line up of two-year-olds on offer.
Originally purchased for $250,000 from the Bellerive Stud draft at the 2010 Gold Coast Yearling Sale, the gelding is the first foal of the stakes winning and regally related Perugino mare Gina Lollawitcha.
This time around when offered for sale by the Hong Kong Jockey Club, the top prospect was purchased by Marces Lee Tze Bun for HK$7 million (A$902,062).
All 20 of the lots offered at the auction were sold – five of them Australian breds – and the group grossed over HK$94 million and averaged HK$4.7 million.
The buyers of the top priced two-year-old gelding by Fastnet Rock have announced that Dennis Yip will train their exciting racetrack prospect.
His dam Gina Lollawitcha won three races including the listed Kevin Hayes Stakes and is one of four stakes winners from the grand producer Lucky Witch.
A stakes winner in her own right, Lucky Witch is also the dam of Lucky Diva, Spirit of Westbury and Duke of Westbury.
Fastnet Rock will be well represented at the upcoming Magic Millions National Sale at the Gold Coast during late May and June.
