Fantastic Blue shocked most punters but lived up to his connections expectations when he scored a thrilling win in Saturday’s Group Three Premier’s Cup (2200m) at Doomben.
Starting at $71 with bookies and returning triple figure dividends on totes across the country, Fantastic Blue led home a Magic Millions trifecta result when he beat Dance With Her and Ironstein.
Accomplished Toowoomba horseman Paul Nolan said he expected big things from his charge and his dreams of winning a Brisbane Cup were given a tremendous boost.
“He’s a very good horse and I told everyone who would listen that he would win today,” Nolan said.
“He was fourth up today. He was badly ridden last time and his work during the week on the track was outstanding.”
“I’ve always wanted to win the Brisbane Cup since I was a young fella.”
“So that’s where I will take this horse. He will pull up in good shape after this race and he has to be a big chance in the Cup,” Nolan added.
The win continued a good winter carnival for star Gold Coast apprentice Tim Bell after he picked up the lucky ride after Glen Colless was unable to make the weight.
Fantastic Blue enhanced an outstanding record of runners from the 2010 Magic Millions 3YO Guineas at the Gold Coast.
The first 10 over the line in the race won by Graceful Anna have all subsequently won stakes races and since the race was run that same bunch of gallopers have earned a staggering and ever increasing prizemoney haul of over $7 million.
Fantastic Blue, a gelded son of Danehill Dancer, notched career win 11 today and his earnings have raced to $384,850.
Nolan purchased the Baramul Stud graduate for $55,000 from the 2008 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
The 136th individual stakes winner for his sire Danehill Dancer, Fantastic Blue is from the unraced Kenmare mare Chandrika.
The dam of six winners, Chandrika is a three quarter sister to Leica or Not – the grand producing dam of Leica Guv, Light Fantastic and Lectrice.
Chandrika is also a half sister to the twice Doncaster Handicap winner Pharaoh and the stakes performed Malaysian galloper Supreme Ruler.
