A colt by Newgate Farm’s young sire sensation Extreme Choice topped today’s Magic Millions Gold Coast 2YOs in Training Sale when selling for $350,000. |
Offered by A List Stud, the colt catalogued as Lot 58 attracted a flurry of bids before being knocked down to Dean Harvey’s Baystone Farm for a sale topping price. “He’s an elite stallion and I thought this sale was a good opportunity while the stud farms weren’t buying,” a delighted Dean Harvey said. “They’ll be making a lot more in the same ring in January – all the big buyers will be on them.” “I liked the colt as a yearling and missed him there. He has a nice pedigree and the stallion is elite.” “I haven’t seen figures on a young stallion like Extreme Choice currently boasts. I asked Adrian Hancock if he had, and he said you’d have to go back to Adraan to see them.” “The colt breezed really well, has a great action and I was really keen to secure him.” “Leon and Troy Corstens will train him. He’s pretty much syndicated already. He’ll have three to four weeks off and then head to Flemington.” Leading bloodstock agent James Clarke teamed up with champion Hong Kong trainer Ricky Yiu to purchase three lots on the day including the second top seller – a Capitalist colt for $330,000. Presented by O’Gorman Racing Stables in Tamworth, the Capitalist colt is from the city winning Northern Meteor mare Solar Burst. “The stallion is flying and the horse breezed well – he ticked so many boxes,” Clarke said. “I liked the horse at the yearling sale here in January and Ricky really liked his breeze – he picked him out and I was delighted to be able to work with him at the sale today.” Across the day over $5.8 million was traded on 85 lots sold at an average price of $68,600 – up 28 per cent on last year. The clearance rate is currently over 73 per cent and expected to rise overnight. “All in all I’m delighted with the day,” Magic Millions Managing Director Barry Bowditch reported. “We’re dealing with a restricted market with basically only Queensland buyers able to attend.” “Full credit to buyers and the Magic Millions team for engaging with a diverse buying bench – both domestic and international.” “It was clear that vendors that went to the yearling market for quality stock were rewarded and this bodes well for the upcoming yearling sale season which commences in January at the Gold Coast,” Bowditch added. A List Stud, who suppled the day’s top seller, was the leading vendor by average ($221,000 for 5 sold) and gross ($1,105,000). O’Gorman Racing Stables and Nolen Racing both averaged six figures and were among a number of vendors to finish with a 100% clearance rate.
