Mr Big could back up in next Friday night’s $325,000 Group Two Aushorse Golden Horseshoe (1200m) after he scored a stunning debut win at Kranji on Friday night.
A son of Elusive Quality, Mr Big couldn’t have been more impressive, streaking clear in the straight under Barend Vorster to win by eight and three quarter lengths in slick time.
Despite being eased down the Michael Freedman trained two-year-old stopped the clock in 58.4 seconds – just 0.33 seconds off Bionic Boy’s course record for the Polytrack.
Vorster allowed Mr Big to cross to the rails from an outside barrier and after sharing the lead on the corner he raced clear for the most impressive of wins.
Freedman said he would monitor Mr Big before deciding if he would clash with Singapore’s best juveniles in the Golden Horseshoe feature.
“We will see how he pulls up, but yes I guess I could consider backing him up next Friday,” Freedman said.
“I bought him on behalf of some owners who have supported me for a long time and it’s good to see them have a winner on debut.”
“As he was a late arrival he couldn’t run in the early races of the series. It was always a late rush to get him ready for at least one race.”
“I don’t like pushing young horses in the barrier trials but Danny (Beasley) told me he really like this horse. He said he was a very nice two-year-old with ability.”
“A lot of credit must also go to Danny for the work he has done on this horse. Too bad he couldn’t make the weight tonight.”
Mr Big was plucked from the draft of Yarraman Park at last year’s Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale for just $21,000.
He is by Sepoy’s sire Elusive Quality and is from the unraced Danehill mare Basamaat – a sister to stakes placegetter Clear Impression and daughter of stakes winning Red Ransom juvenile Shining Hour.
The family is packed full of juvenile winners – including Italian champion Le Vie Dei Colori, English group winner Soraaya and half brother and fellow stakes winner Declaration of War.
