Tom Magnier, bidding on behalf of Coolmore Stud, snapped up the Fastnet Rock-Dazzling Gazelle filly after a spirited battle with Victorian trainer Robbie Laing.
The filly, presented by Coolmore, was bred by one of the farm’s leading international clients and will ultimately head to the Lindsay Park stables of David and Ben Hayes and Tom Dabernig.
“Barbara Banke bought the mare (Dazzling Gazelle) at the sales and she sent her back to Coolmore and she’s bred a fantastic yearling,” Magnier said.
“We’ve had a lot of success with Fastnet Rock from this sale – we’ve had Atlantic Jewel.”
“Barbara has done a great job breeding this filly and we’re hopeful for a bit of luck for the future.”
Banke of Stonestreet Stables, seated with the bloodstock agent John Moynihan, was delighted with the result. As well as selling tonight’s top priced offering Banke and Moynihan have been active buyers, snapping up some quality lots.
Magnier said he was delighted to purchase the star filly to wrap what has been a most successful event for all at Coolmore.
“People are coming here because of what the Magic Millions put on,” Magnier added.
“It’s a credit to Katie, it’s a credit to Gerry and the whole world is watching on this week and it’s a credit to everyone at Magic Millions – to Vin Cox and the whole team,” Magnier said.
Tonight’s fourth day of the Gold Coast Yearling Sale completed Book One of the auction with records across the board.
Some 649 lots were sold between Wednesday and tonight at a record average price of $206,922 and record gross of over $134 million.
“The place was just heaving,” Magic Millions Managing Director Vin Cox said. “There was that many people here – the tables were all full it was just huge atmosphere.”
“In the ring tonight the top price of $1.2 million for a Fastnet Rock filly closely related to Miracles of Life, it was a very good result and I wish Tom Magnier and his team the very best of luck.”
“We are very happy,” Cox added. “As I’d said before if we had have got somewhere near last year we would have been very happy as it was a great sale last year.”
“But we have gone above that by quite a margin. We had more horses in Book One and our clearance rate was pretty much the same and our average has increased and our turnover has gone up massively.”
