Robbie Griffiths’ outstanding summer run continued at Flemington today when classy stable runner Danzylum led home a Magic Millions quinella in the listed $151,000 Chester Manifold Stakes (1410m).
Well rated in front by globe trotting rider Luke Currie, Danzylum found plenty in the straight and held out gallant black type performer Time Matters to win easily.
It gave the stable back to back stakes wins in Melbourne following last Saturday’s listed win with Beltrois.
Stable foreman Don Healy was impressed with the performance of the winner, who was purchased by Griffiths for $230,000 from the draft of Yallambee Stud at the 2005 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
“He’s been a terrific horse for the stable,” Healy said. “He’s a told old horse.”
“He likes to run his races as we pretty much saw today,” he added. “He’s got a nice fast cruising speed.”
“Luke’s instructions were to ride his own race and not to worry about the others.”
“To win two listed races in two weeks has been great and it’s been good for young Luke (Currie) also.”
“I told him before the race today that if he won the race we’d change his name from Luke to Listed.”
For Currie the win continued a great run since returning from an overseas stint in Mauritius.
“A little bit of luck goes a long way I guess,” Currie said.
“I was talking to Robbie this morning and we thought we’d be the obvious leaders – so it was a matter of rating him how he wanted to go.”
“He’s a free rolling style of horse and he did it so easy in front and gave a really good kick.”
Danzylum, by Dance Hero’s sire Danzero, is one of nine good winners from the well related and top producing Plush mare Political Asylum.
That makes the gelding a half brother to the Stradbroke Handicap winner Landsighting – a winner of eight races and earner of $1.3 million.
As well as being the dam of a Stradbroke winner, Political Asylum is a full sister to Plush Embassy – another winner of Queensland’s famous handicap event.
As it stands Danzylum has won 10 races and been placed on 13 other occasions and won his connections over $380,000.
