Grand galloper Danzylum will get his chance at racing’s elite level following his brilliant win in today’s listed John Dillon Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield.
The seven-year-old was sent out the $2.60 favourite with bookmakers and lived up to the quote when he strolled home to win by almost two lengths.
The Danzero gelding continued the red hot run for Cranbourne trainer Robbie Griffiths.
“He’s a beauty,” Griffiths told reporters. “He makes his own luck and you can see it in the results.”
“This is his perfect distance. He loves the 1400 metres and hopefully we can just keep him doing this.”
“He’ll probably have a crack at the Orr (Stakes at Group One level).”
“He’s never really proven he’s a Group One horse yet but you never know – he’s fit and well and he loves the track and distance.”
“He’s probably handicapped out of a lot of other options so we’ll have a crack at the Orr and see how we go.”
Winning rider Luke Currie has built up quite an affinity with Danzylum and he was again delighted with his performance.
“He got it pretty easy (in the lead) and he won just as easy,” Currie said after the win.
“All credit to him. He is getting on now and can still produce.”
“He did it last week and a couple of starts ago back here (at Caulfield).”
Danzylum, a half brother to the Group One Stradbroke Handicap winner Landsighting, was purchased by Griffiths for $230,000 at the 2005 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
At that stage it was the most expensive horse Griffiths had ever purchased at auction.
From his 61 career outings, Danzylum has notched 13 wins and 15 minor placings and earnings his connections an ever increasing haul of $648,913.
