Commandare continued the winning streak of graduates of the Magic Millions National Horses in Training Sale when he notched a milestone win at Doomben yesterday.
A $125,000 purchase from the 2008 edition of Australia’s leading breeze up style sale, Commandare showed speed early and late to score the most dominant of victories.
The win was the first in Brisbane for comeback apprentice Patrick Keane – a young claimer who recently rode a winning treble at the Sunshine Coast.
Commandare is now trained at Eagle Farm by Lawrie Mayfield-Smith after kicking away his career in style in New South Wales.
The gelding has always shown plenty of ability and after a pair of eye catching seconds he broke through for his maiden Queensland success.
Commandare has raced on just 14 occasions for three wins and five minor placings and earnings of over $61,000. That figure looks set to rise over the coming weeks.
He is raced by good friends Jayven See and Bob Wood and their wives.
“He did a great job,” Keane said of Commandare. “He was able to do it at both ends of the race.”
“I’ve been impressed with his high cruising speed and the win continues the good success I’ve had with Lawrie (Mayfield-Smith) since moving to Queensland.”
“Things have been going well for me up here and I hope that can continue into this new season.”
“I have a full book at the Gold Coast on Saturday and I’m looking forward to getting another win or two on the board,” Keane summed up.
At the post Commandare ($2.50 fav) held a four and a quarter length margin over Carry Me Bluey ($5), while Snippets Secret ($13) was a further nose back in third place.
Commandare is one of six winners produced by the former outstanding sprinting mare Wrap Around.
A nine time winner by Bletchingly,Wrap Around won six stakes races in Australia and one in the United States.
Her peak win came in the Group One William Reid Stakes at Moonee Valley. She also placed in a Manikato Stakes, Lightning Stakes and Futurity Stakes.
