Former Queenslander Chosen to Fly made the best possible start to his career with a new stable when he scored a gutsy win in a leg of the Asian Young Guns Challenge at Flemington on Saturday.
Having established himself as a talented multiple city winner in Brisbane, Chosen to Fly is now in Victoria and in the stables of father-daughter team Colin and Cindy Alderson.
On Saturday the promising four-year-old raced for the first time since an unplaced effort in the Magic Millions 3YO Guineas and he did it in style – getting home in a competitive finish to win.
The result was delayed when the connections of the runner-up threw in a protest – but it was, as expected, dismissed by stewards.
“He’s a very good looking horse,” a delighted Cindy Alderson said. “He’s such a big horse and a long strider and I had a feeling he would like Flemington and that’s why he came here.”
“He didn’t show anything too special early on in training, but he’s kept on improving and we knew he’d run well.”
“There might be a race for him here over the carnival later on,” she added.
A graduate of the 2009 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, Chosen to Fly is now the winner of six of his 13 starts and his earnings have shot to $191,200.
A son of Choisir, Chosen to Fly is one of three multiple winners, from three to race, for the Sydney placed mare Butterfly Kisses.
A daughter of Spectacular Spy, Butterfly Kisses is a full sister to group winner Legal Agent and half sister to stakes placegetter Calhoun and Miss Guilty, the dam of Doomben 10,000 winner and multiple stakes winner Verdict Declared (now the dam of group winner A Country Girl).
Saturday was a big day for Choisir – he also sired stakes winners in Adelaide (Uxorious) and Perth (Kid Choisir).
