Former outstanding racemare Cheeky Choice has sold for over $1 million during today’s first session of the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale.
When the hammer fell on the Redoute’s Choice mare it was Gerry Harvey from Baramul Stud who held the bid at $1,025,000.
Offered by Bellagio Lodge, the mare attracted an opening bid of $500,000 and it was announced by auctioneer Grant Burns that she was “on the market.”
Bids from no fewer than four different parties was received prior to the hammer falling on the mare, who was catalogued as lot 888.
Harvey, who’s been one of the most active buyers during the first session of the Broodmare Sale, was delighted with his latest acquisition – who was in foal to star Vinery Stud stallion More Than Ready.
“She’s a lovely mare who proved her class on the racetrack and she has a bright future ahead at stud,” Harvey said.
“She would be a stand out at any farm around the world,” he added.
A graduate of the Magic Millions ring as a yearling, Cheeky Choice was a star on the track with four wins and over $625,000 in earnings.
Her best win came in a Group One Flight Stakes – while she also won a Group Two Tea Rose Stakes and was placed in two other Group One events.
Earlier, the impeccably bred three-year-old filly Bakarje Diva was purchased by Patinack Farm for $600,000.
A placegetter at the Gold Coast this season, Bakarje Diva is a three quarter sister to champion mare Makybe Diva and a full sister to group winning sire Musket.
