Be Positive lived up to her name and showed great fight to notch a career highlight win in the Group Three Frances Tressady Stakes (1400m) at Flemington on Saturday.

Despite being headed close to home by Red Flair, who had the drop on the filly throughout, Be Positive was able to fight back regain the lead and pull away for a strong half length success.

The win was celebrated by Mornington trainer Tony Noonan and the mare’s owner who know the value of their mare increased greatly with the success.

“I told Danny (Nikolic, winning rider) before the race that she would be a very fit mare,” Noonan said.

“She’s been up for a long time and done a massive job this preparation,” he added. “She’s come a long way from Kyneton at the start of the prep.”

Noonan said he was quietly confident his front running charge would come back when headed in the straight.

“At home she does a lot of the bullocking work and she’s very hard to run down.”

A $115,000 purchase by the team of Laurel Oak Bloodstock from the draft of Trevannah at the 2007 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, Be Positive has already earned over $174,000 from just 15 starts.

And her present day value would be a few times her current prizemoney earnings.

At the post Be Positive ($9-$12-$10) held a half length margin over Red Flair ($15-$21), while fellow Magic Millions graduate Flying Ruby ($21-$26) was another half length back.

Be Positive is a half sister to the six times Adelaide placed Iglesia filly Marley and Me.

They are both from an unraced Hennessy mare who’s dam by A.P. Indy is a half sister to American stakes winner Hippomenes and dual Melbourne stakes winner Chalee.

Also in the family are stakes winners including Swiss Echo, Tricky Creek, Speed Dialer, Parade Ground, Wavering Girl, Everhope and Fleet Wahine.
