Australian bred and sold star War Artist has shown his class with a strong finishing win in the US$175,000 Corporate Banking Turf Handicap (6f) at Meydan in Dubai overnight.
A former Group One winner in South Africa, War Artist continues to show his class with his ninth win in just 27 starts.
The Orpen gelding is one of the world’s most versatile sprinter having won group races in South Africa, Germany, France and Dubai.
A graduate of Attunga Stud, War Artist was purchased for his initial South African connections by Andy Williams’ World Wide Bloodstock for $57,500 at the 2005 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
War Artist is now trained by Robert Collet and he was ridden again by champion international rider Olivier Peslier who was impressed with the victory.
“On his day he is a very good sprinter as he has shown on many occasions,” Peslier said.
“It all went right today with a good fast gallop suiting him,” he added.
One of four winners produced by his dam, the twice winning Brocco mare Royal Solitaire, War Artist is a half brother to the former classy Brisbane mare Sashenka.
Royal Solitaire is a daughter of the Sydney winner All Kisses, making her a half sister to the Adelaide stakes winner Calming.
His sire Orpen, a son of Lure, won two races at two including the Group One Prix Morny at Deauville. He is the sire of 59 stakes winners worldwide.
