One time Perth based galloper Arowana Dot Com continued his rise through Singapore’s racing ranks when he scored a strong win at Kranji on Friday night.
Despite being caught a little deep for much of the race, the talented grey proved much too good for his rivals, zipping clear in the straight and winning impressively.
The Hussonet gelding, who cost $170,000 at the 2009 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, is now the winner of five of his six lifetime starts. He’s already earned over S$200,000.
He was initially prepared in Perth by Joe Byrne for good friend and client Ong Tiong Seng and he was shipped to Singapore after a stunning five length trial win (over 400 metres) at Belmont in June last year.
The win was the fourth on the night for former Brazilian hoop Joao Moriera.
“For now we will stick to 1200 to 1400 metre races for him,” winning trainer Desmond Koh said. “He had no weight on his back and that was a big factor.”
“I won’t rush him as he’s such a good progressive horse with plenty of scope about him.”
“He could be a horse for the Singapore Four-Year-Old Challenge next year,” he added.
Moriera, Singapore’s leading rider, was suitably impressed with the performance of Arowana Dot Com.
“He’s a very nice horse,” the star rider reported. “He jumped to the outside but he always had cover.”
“He found daylight at the top of the straight but he got a bit of pressure from the outside.”
“I was still able to squeeze that little bit extra from him in the straight and he just kept finding more,” Moreira added.
Arowana Dot Com is another smart performer for the now Cornerstone Stud based sire Hussonet.
He is one of two winners for his dam, the once raced Chief’s Crown mare Unveil.
Unveil, who is from the stakes performed Kenmare mare Preview, is a half sister to the Group One VRC Sires’ Produce Stakes winner Pillaging.
Pillaging was sold to Hong Kong where he was known as Helene Pillaging and he retired with earnings of over A$2.38 million.
