Former Sydney galloper Afghani notched a seasonal milestone for Magic Millions graduates when he scored a stylish win at Ascot in Perth this evening.
A gelded son of Street Cry, Afghani notched win number 2500 in Australia since the start of the 2010-11 racing season on August 1 last year.
Bred by the powerful Darley operation, Afghani was purchased by Geoff and Beryl White’s Invermein outfit for $160,000 at the 2006 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale.
He proved his class when a winner at Warwick Farm, Canterbury and Randwick prior to his transfer to Perth.
Afghani is now trained by Adam Durrant and the win today was his second in Perth following a victory at Belmont last July.
This time around he proved much too good for his rivals, racing clear to beat Nomummofun by a length and three quarters.
“Magic Millions graduates have a proud history of winning,” Magic Millions Managing Director David Chester said.
“With the season not yet half completed it’s great to see so many of our graduates are winning for their connections.”
“Racing is about winning and putting those photos on the wall!”
Chester said the win was a timely reminder that the country’s next major yearling sale would be held in Perth from February 9.
“We have an outstanding catalogue of yearlings set to go under the hammer and anyone serious about buying quality youngsters will be there.”
