The reputation of the Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale as one of the world’s great value thoroughbred auctions was enhanced last night with the result of the weight-for-age Group Two Australia Stakes at Moonee Valley.
Two graduates of the Morphettville sale stepped out in the big race and they ran first and third, split by a graduate of the Perth Yearling Sale, giving Magic Millions a clean sweep in the feature.
And in a boost to the 2014 edition of the Adelaide Yearling Sale, a half brother to the winner and full sister to the third placegetter are being prepared to go under the hammer in March.
Richie’s Vibe took the spoils in the Australia Stakes when he steamed home between runners to nab the warm favourite Moment of Change in the shadows of the post.
A $10,000 bargain buy from the Eliza Park draft at the 2011 Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale, Richie’s Vibe is one of the country’s most progressive young sprinters.
Trainer Tony Vasil said the lightly raced gelding was set to run in Tasmanian mid week before connections switched to the Moonee Valley option after reviewing the costs.
Richie’s Vibe could have his next start in the listed Hareeba Stakes at Mornington in February, but that is now dependent on the handicapper according to his trainer.
Turning into quite the moneyspinner, Richie’s Vibe has raced on just 11 occasions and notched five wins, including two at black type level, and earned over $336,000.
Bred by Dr Chris Gliddon, Richie’s Vibe is from the twice Melbourne winning Hennessy mare Early Wakening.
Successful at distances from 1200 to 1600 metres, Early Wakening won five races in all and has had just two runners to date.
Her latest yearling, a chestnut colt by Astronomer Royal, is lot 83 in March’s Adelaide Yearling Sale and will be presented at the sale on Gliddon’s behalf by Kyneton’s Conerin.
The colt will be offered late in the evening during the first session of the sale on Monday March 10, following the Adelaide Cup and Magic Millions Adelaide 2YO Classic.
Early in the sale, lot 5 to be precise, Keyneton based Riva Ridge Stud will present a full sister to the Australia Stakes third placegetter It is Written.
The filly by Written Tycoon, Super VOBIS and SABOIS eligible, is the seventh foal of the lightly raced Danehill Dancer mare Winning Team.
It is Written was purchased by connections for $45,000 at the 2010 Adelaide Yearling Sale and has earnings of almost $400,000 after seven wins and nine placings from 30 runs.
