Real quality and real value will meet in Launceston in February next year when the cream of the Tasmanian yearling crop go up for sale.
The catalogue for the 2016 Magic Millions Tasmanian Yearling Sale comprises 126 lots and they will be offered at Launceston’s Inveresk Showgrounds on Thursday, February 18.
Recent graduates of the sale have been starring around the country and include the likes of stakes winners The Cleaner, Palentino, Banca Mo, Lady Lynette, Lake Sententia and Triple Asset as well as quality performers Like a Carousel, Kenjorwood and Valiant Warrior.
Among the yearlings catalogued for 2016 are (at least half) relations to stakes winners including Banca Mo, Braequest, Brakim Lass, Cailin Miss, Grand Tycoon, Jadescent, Lake Sententia, Packing OK, Palentino and Triple Asset.
Also catalogued are (at least half) relations to fellow stakes performers Emily’s Girl, First Course, Follow My Dust, Happy As Hell, Kid Kobe, Queen of Egypt, Regal Flame, Royal Rapture and Zodiac Queen. Some 21 lots in the catalogue are from black type performed mares including stakes winners Abbadena, Coupe, Gehenna, Star Hit and Wavishing and stakes placegetters Aprilia, Butzie, Buzzing Along, Cassini Contest, Champara, Come on Rory, Cristallo, Detail, Feerique, Gathering Gold, Keep on Talking, Marette, Provokes, Scottattitude, Silvercitymiss and Speedy Sky.
A highlight of the sale will be the 22 first crop yearlings by Encosta de Lago’s group winning son and Armidale Stud resident Needs Further. Armidale have 27 yearlings catalogued, the same amount as Grenville Stud, the breeders of Caulfield Cup winner Mongolian Khan. “We’re delighted by the step up in the calibre of yearlings heading to the 2016 Tasmanian Yearling Sale,” Magic Millions’ Tim Brown said. “The sale always presents quality individuals at value prices and this will go to another level in February.”
The most represented among the 52 sires represented in the 2016 Tasmanian Yearling Sale are Needs Further (22 lots), Cardinal Virtue (9), West Quest (9), Tough Speed (6) and Wordsmith (5). All of Tasmania’s leading breeders are well represented with yearlings with the leading vendors ranked by draft size comprising Armidale Stud (27 lots), Grenville Stud (27), Brooklyn Park (12), Alva Stud (11), and Motree Thoroughbreds (7).
The sale will be held a day after the Magic Millions Racenight at the Launceston Racetrack on Wednesday, February 17 – featuring two $50,000 events for eligible Magic Millions graduates.
