More Than Ready Colt Tops Adelaide Sale

A colt by champion international sire More Than Ready topped today’s Session One section of the Magic Millions Adelaide Yearling Sale at Morphettville.

Magic Millions, acting as agent for a Victorian based client, went to $135,000 to secure the impeccably bred youngster from the draft of Baramul Stud.

Catalogued as lot 105, the brown colt is a half brother to the Tokyo City Cup winner Zauberin and is from a Sydney performed Danehill daughter of Skating.

He is therefore a member of the same black type filled family as star gallopers including Juste Momente, Murtajill and Bradbury’s Luck.

Leading Melbourne based trainer Mark Kavanagh has tasted great success with previous Adelaide Sale graduates and he purchased the second top priced lot of the day, a filly by Snitzel for $130,000.

The Mill Park offering is from a Melbourne performed Umatilla full sister to Songs of Vienna (dam of City of Song) and half sister to Winterbottom Stakes winner Hadabeclorka.

Two other lots sold for six figure amounts – an O’Reilly colt for $105,000 to Victoria’s Kym Hann and a Testa Rossa filly for $100,000 to Perth’s Simon Miller.

One of the new buyers this year was young Morphettville horseman Sam Kavanagh – he signed for four yearlings ranging in price from $8,000 to $80,000.

There was strong international interest with four yearlings sold to Malaysia, two to New Zealand, two to Macau and nine to Singapore.

Over $5.33 million was traded on 153 lots sold during today’s session at an increased average price of $34,843.

“There was a strong buying bench on hand and they were particularly strong on the quality lots when they were offered,” Magic Millions Managing Director Vin Cox said.

“It was nice to see buyers from Singapore, Malaysia, Macau and New Zealand as well as from many states around Australia.”

“Those buyers are well and truly aware of the value that is on offer at this auction and they return each and every year.”

“Hopefully we are able to sell some more of the passed in lots and push that clearance rate higher than the current 74 per cent figure.”

The second session of the sale will be held at the complex from 11am (SA time) tomorrow.

“We’ll see even more value tomorrow with strong interest in particular from the provincial and country trainers of South Australia – many of whom have achieved great success from their purchases here in the past,” Cox added.
