Tassie’s Star Lady Does It Again

Tasmania’s best and most popular racehorse Lady Lynette continued her outstanding run of form with a win in today’s Group Two Blazer Stakes (1400m) at Flemington.

After a string of excellent runs including a last start third in the Stocks Stakes at Moonee Valley, Lady Lynette notched career win 13 and sent her earnings soaring toward $1 million when she cruised to victory.

The Ladoni mare, a great advertisement to the Tasmanian thoroughbred industry, is prepared at Seven Mile Beach on the outskirts of Hobart and father-son training team of David and Scott Brunton.

“She’s was fantastic today,” a delighted Scott Brunton said from the winner’s stall. “The ride was terrific.”

“Dad wanted to push forward today. He got sick of running in the fastest sectionals – you get nothing extra for that.”

“She’s a real grinder – but she’s fantastic. It’s just a huge thrill. I’m pretty happy for Mum (the senior part owner) – she’s a pretty good slinger took.”

The outstanding mare looks set for the feature mares race at Moonee Valley on Cox Plate Day prior to a tilt at the Group One Myer Classic back at Flemington on Derby Day.

“I might need a toe-rope on a couple of the others – but we’ll be having a go at it,” Brunton added.

“She’s going terrific. Dad’s changed a few things around with her at home. She’s had a big campaign and she’s fantastic.”

The win was the second feature stakes race win on the day for Nicholas Hall – son of former Melbourne Cup winner Greg.

“She’s been a beauty (to me),” Hall said. “She’s given me a great experience on both times on Cox Plate Day and I think she’s going to be going to that race again this year.”

“I’ve had a good association with David Brunton. He has a lot of faith in you and you’re able to ride her how you want to ride her and I know her really well.”

“She’d had the groundwork this time around and the fitness was there. If she had gone back today she would have only been following them around.”

“It was 1400 (today) and she’s probably looking for a bit further so we had to put her there and she did it well.”

“She’s a real fighter – she always tries so hard,” Hall summed up.

Now a 13 time winner and earner of over $980,000, Lady Lynette was purchased for $13,000 from the draft of Armidale Stud at the 2006 Magic Millions Tasmanian Yearling Sale.

She is one of four winners from the once winning Coronation Day mare Queen’s Own – a full sister to the Group One Thousand Guineas placegetter Regal Sashay.

Further back it is the same family of prolific international winners Dom Donizetti and Malagar.
