Tzar, the top priced lot of last October’s Magic Millions National Horses in Training Sale, scored an impressive debut win in Singapore on Sunday.
A stablemate of champion international sprinter Rocket Man, Tzar was purchased for $180,000, having been earlier pin-hooked for $15,000 from the Adelaide Yearling Sale.
The son of Gonski was sent out the favourite and he didn’t let his followers down, cruising home in the straight to beat Handsome Bachelor by a length.
Winning rider Barend Vorster was impressed with the win from the promising juvenile in the $65,000 event for two and three-year-olds.
“I thought he would need the run, but he showed plenty of pace and courage,” Vorster said after the win.
“He was getting a bit tired towards the end, and I am sure he can only improve from that first run.”
“We’ve had him for only six months and he’s done a good job to win on debut.”
“Pat’s spent a lot of money on these two-year-olds and it’s good they are starting to come through. It is definitely encouraging for the future,” he summed up.
Tzar was bred in South Australia by Riva Ridge Stud and sold through their draft for $15,000 at last year’s Adelaide Yearling Sale where he was purchased by Queensland based couple Cameron and Kelly Bond.
The Bonds, under their Kenmore Lodge banner, prepared him for the National Horses in Training Sale and he proved the star of the auction – snapped up by Andy Williams’ World Wide Bloodstock for $180,000.
Gonski, the sire of Tzar, was himself a graduate of the Gold Coast sale ring and won at stakes level before retiring to stud.
His first crop are making their presence felt around the region with stakes placegetters Gone Skiing and Gonski Girl and winners Czechout Girl, Gogonski, Rare Find and Skip Town – the latter also winning on Sunday.
Tzar’s dam, the twice raced Hurricane Sky mare Blazing Sky, is a half sister to stakes winners Si Senor and Bello Signor.
Meanwhile, fellow National Horses in Training Sale graduate Kaiser continued his great season when successful later in the day at Kranji.
Trained by Theo Kieser, Kaiser is by Seidnazar and his latest win was the third in six starts for the exciting youngster.
The result of the juvenile race was a perfect one for the National Horses in Training Sale with the minor placegetters Goal Keeper (Untouchable) and Pint Sized Prince (Outback Prince) also being purchased at the same sale last October.
