Doncaster dreams for Triple Elegance remained on track yesterday when he scored a strong win in the Group Three Liverpool City Cup (1300m) at Warwick Farm.
Topping off a big day for birthday boy Chris Waller, Triple Elegance came with a perfectly timed run along the inside under Jim Cassidy to score a comprehensive victory.
One of Sydney’s most progressive gallopers, Triple Elegance continues to take each step through the grades following his purchase for $80,000 from the Murrulla Stud draft at the 2008 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale,
His impressive record now reads out at seven wins and seven placings from just 17 starts and stakes earnings of over $440,000.
The win was the second at group level for the stable for the day following the success of Danleigh in the Group One Chipping Norton Stakes.
“It doesn’t get much better than winning races, it doesn’t matter what group they are, it is just a great thrill and everything is coming together nicely today,” Waller said after the victory.
Triple Elegance, as his name suggests, is raced in the same interests as one of the stable’s first Group One winning stars Triple Honour – a winner of the Doncaster.
“Triple Honour was the turning point in my career. It was great timing and we picked up a lot of high profile owners at that time.”
“Now we have a great team with a great bunch of owners and it is great when it all comes together like today.”
Winning rider Jim Cassidy couldn’t help but be impressed with the victory of the promising son of Mossman. He described the win was “tremendous.”
“He has gone to the next level as I thought he would after his last couple of runs,” Cassidy commented.
“Chris has done a great job with him – placed him well. I rode him alright and he really travelled well in the run – be gee he travelled well in the run – I was going to win at the thousand.”
Triple Elegance stopped the clock in a sizzling 1 minute 15.92 seconds – a new race record for the 1300 metre journey of the group feature.
At the post Triple Elegance ($4.20 fav) held a length margin over a gallant Graceful Anna ($6.50), while Pureness ($9) was another head back in third place.
The winner, one of 13 stakes winners for his sire Mossman, is the first stakes winner from four runners for the Quest for Fame mare Mary Machree.
Twice a winner in Sydney, Mary Machree was stakes placed on three occasions prior to being retired to stud.
She in turn is from the stakes winniner Wolverton mare Hysterical – making Mary Machree a half sister to stakes winner Hy Fuji and the stakes placed Supreme Echo.
